Neon lights are more than aesthetics—they carry the collective memory of our city. Hong Kong Design Centre, together with Tetra Neon Exchange (TNX), proudly presents the exhibition ‘Luminous Neon’, which will feature a series of public programmes! The first dialogue session brings together three speakers who have been driving the preservation of Hong Kong’s neon heritage, including
🔸David Rule, Founder of TNX, the team has salvaged nearly 100 neon signs preserving their legacy
🔸Tina Pang, Curator of Hong Kong Visual Culture, M+, actively acquiring neon artifacts and conducting research since 2013
🔸Brian Kwok, Associate Professor, School of Design, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, author of several publications on local neon culture, such as 'Fading of Hong Kong Neon Lights'
They will share insights on conserving the Hong Kong’s unique neon heritage and its fading culture – through the lens of a non-profit organisation, museum and cultural researcher. As precious neon signs and design sketches gradually disappear, how can we build and sustain meaningful collections? Christopher DeWolf, Zolima Managing Editor and co-author of the Zolima Culture Guide series of books like 'Neon Is Not Dead: The Future of a Hong Kong Icon'.
Join us for an inspiring dialogue on the past, present, and bright future of Hong Kong neon!
