Where design meets performance
The Challenge: The Innovation of Italian Design in Sports (The Challenge) is a captivating international exhibition that celebrates the synergy between sport, technology, and creativity through the lens of Italian industrial design and the excellence of Made in Italy.
Jointly presented by the Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) and the Consulate General of Italy in Hong Kong and Macao, curated by ADI Design Museum and promoted by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), the exhibition offers a visual journey through over five decades of Italian innovation in sport. From the 1960s to today, it showcases pioneering, high-tech solutions that elevate both athletic performance and user experience, all rooted in Italian craftsmanship, engineering precision, and a passion for detail.
Visitors will encounter iconic pieces that have shaped Italy’s sporting legacy and cultural imagination, including:

The Moon Boot ICON, inspired by astronaut boots, is a style and functionality icon. Made with lightweight, durable materials, it provides revolutionary insulation and comfort in extreme cold, characteristic of the 1970s. Its cylindrical design and vibrant colors made it popular both on ski slopes and high-fashion runways. Exported worldwide, it is considered a symbol of Italian design.
Football boots Roberto Baggio, Diadora, 1994

Designed to provide maximum precision and control, they embody a piece of Italian and global football history. The collaboration between Diadora and Baggio gave rise to an iconic line, merging shared values of performance and style, making these boots a symbol of elegance and effectiveness on the field. The design aims to bridge the glorious past of football with the future of sports technology, preserving the legacy of a timeless champion.
