'Meow-cation – With Cats, We Connect' brings a colossal, crowd-pleasing feline to DX design hub this summer. Co-curated by local art group ArtDreamers and the Hong Kong Design Centre, the showcase transforms Sham Shui Po's textile heritage into a playful, larger-than-life encounter.
Hong Kong once thrived on its garment industry, with generations growing up to the hum of sewing machines. Though those days have faded, button shops and fabric stalls still hold the fort across Sham Shui Po's streets and markets. Every button and zipper on the giant cat's coat was sourced from these very traders. The curatorial team invited veteran fashion designers and third-generation fabric shop owners to lead a series of workshops, engaging over 100 students and members of the public in creating the cat's dazzling patchwork coat, carrying forward the warmth of the craft.
Look up, and rescued cats from local charity "Wai Gun Uk" appear to roam overhead, projected across four giant screens as a nod to responsible adoption. Curious about your own feline nature? An interactive personality installation captures your photo and turns it into a custom cat portrait, ready to download as a phone wallpaper.
Throughout the showcase, five workshops and two talks will cover painting and weaving crafts, alongside sharing sessions on pet wellness and animal rescue. Limited-edition stickers and gachapon souvenirs let visitors take home a piece of the exhibition. Step in, meet the cat, and rediscover a city stitched together by design.
