Contemporary society emphasizes production and efficiency; people crave rapid access to information, and the capacity for deep engagement is gradually eroding. Yet the repetitiveness of ritual stresses "re-cognition" and strengthens values and beliefs. Technology accelerates the disappearance of ritual, while also opening new possibilities for its reconstruction.

Sham Shui Po is a district where old and new intersect with particular intensity: on one side, the spillover of high-tech production; on the other, accumulations of old appliances and secondhand goods, together forming a fast-turning production life cycle in which objects become obsolete almost as soon as they appear. Yet it is precisely this pace that has produced the district's own street smart intelligence: shopkeepers and stallholders make do with what is at hand, improvising repairs, reuses, and resales, a resourcefulness that sets Sham Shui Po apart from anywhere else.

This exhibition treats 3D scanning as a potential conservation ritual, and also as that same kind of ritual repetition, a technological act of re-cognition, documenting the seemingly insignificant objects of Sham Shui Po and retrieving, piece by piece, what has fallen away before it disappears or is replaced.
