davidclovers was founded by David Erdman and Clover Lee. Established in 2007, the collaboration harnesses their fifteen years of experience designing and completing residential homes, interiors and exhibitions. Established in the US as academics and practitioners, their projects emphasize architectural massing and its material effects. The way they work and develop projects reflects both the thoughtful research of their academic backgrounds and their innovative capabilities as a practice. Combining digital modeling, prototyping and fabrication with standard construction methods each project integrates basic elements like ceilings, windows, lighting and structure in unique ways affecting space, program and habitation.
In 2009 davidclovers relocated to Hong Kong where they have completed six projects: House DE, Barker Residence, Tregunter Residence, Yud Yud (a commercial storefront), Morningstar Pre-School and Stanley Residence. Due to be completed in July 2013 is a residential project in Hong Kong, consisting of a 49-unit tower, swimming pool, changing rooms, playground and associated lobbies. Also expected to be completed this year is a small cafe in Hong Kong and Butterfly House in the US. Under construction is a fifty-five acre carpark-ceiling and nine pavilions for a residential project in Zhuhai, China. This year, davidclovers was invited to design a civic office/hotel complex in Alberta, Canada, a sales office in China and a natural therme and arrival building for an eco-tourism resort in southwestern China. In the US, davidclovers completed the design of Lunar House whose plans are currently on sale through Hometta.
David and Clover have lectured widely and have been published in numerous architectural journals, newspapers and books throughout Asia, Europe and the US. Their work has been exhibited at institutions including the Venice, Hong Kong, Korean and Beijing International Biennales, Center Pompidou, MOMA, and SF MOMA. Recent solo exhibitions include ‘Immuring’ at SCIArc and recent group exhibitions include the Hong Kong Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2010; the west coast part of the Beijing Architecture Biennale 2010; and ‘Hyperlinks: Architecture and Design’ at the Chicago Institute of Art 2011.
