Workshop: Active Ageing
0900 - 1200 Patricia Moore
President, Moore Design Associates LLC, USA
Topic: Attaining & Maintaining Quality Lifestyle in All the Years of Our Lives
Aging is the one life experience in which all peoples, of every culture and creed, share.
Worldwide, every government is struggling to meet the ever-evolving needs of its populous.
Companies are actively and earnestly attempting to meet consumer demands for the tools of everyday living for the entirety of the lifespan.
Individuals are analyzing the quality of their lives and those of their families and friends in terms of how they can balance disparity needs and precious resources. How well we manage the journey of our lifetime is dependent on our personal attitudes and abilities to affect accommodation and change. The global challenge to embrace the greatest demographic revolution ever demands the development of a new lexicon of life.
This Workshop will examine individual understanding of aging, promote shared experience on the challenges to lifelong autonomy and independence, and create a template for personal and professional excellence in living the highest quality of life for all of our years.

Afternoon

With the theme "Color Universal Design”, workshop participant will study the approach of “Color Universal Design” to provide the most accurate information and the beautiful design at the same time, irrespective of the variety of human color visions.
In Japan, barrier free design (BF) and universal design (UD) are used as synonyms to mean “people-friendly”, without giving much thought to their meanings. Mr. Musha will guide the participant return to the basic by pondering “what is people-friendly design?” from his own perspective and many years of experience in Universal Design. He will also explain the relationship between UD and BF using visual zoning.

Professor of Forecasting and Innovation, De Montfort University, UK

Theme: Retail Innovation and research for innovation: HOW TO FORECAST TRENDS
We first look at several contemporary formats in retail design, and go on to research the innovations that gave rise to them. What did the forerunners of these formats look like? What was the impact of each format on the culture of shopping? Whether at an urban scale, or whether they are to do with architecture, interiors and detailed retailing processes, how did retail design change as a result of each format? We want to investigate:
  • Co-existence of retail formats – supermarket versus traditional grocers, etc

  • E-tailing, the use of in-store technologies and the rise of multi-channel environments: managing the service experience

  • Consumer behaviour in technology-based environments
  • The impact of global and local innovations
  • How to research and forecast trends in innovation

    Day 5   25 June (Fri)
    Morning
    Workshop: Restaurant Design
    0900 – 1230 Tina Norden
Associate Director, Conran & Partners, UK

    Topic: Style over Function
Conran & Partners has over 25 years experience designing restaurants, bars and private dining clubs around the world, including the design of over 30 projects for Terence Conran’s own restaurant business in London, New York, Paris and Tokyo. This wealth of experience has taught them that common themes in all successful restaurants are singular vision, attention to detail and achieving the right balance between style and function.
This workshop imparts some of the key lessons the Conran team have learned over the years. Then, working in groups to a project brief developed by Conran & Partners for a restaurant in Asia, workshop participants have the opportunity to put into practice their own ideas about restaurant design. These projects will then be presented at the workshop, enabling participants to share and discuss their varied approaches, learning from each other and developing valuable experience for the future.

    Afternoon
    Workshop: Hospitality Design
    1400 – 1730 Rossana Hu
Founding Partner of NHDRO (Neri&Hu Design and Research Office), Founder of Design Republic, China

    Topic: A Room
Given the speed in which hotels are designed today, many designers tend to just solve problems and spend little time with the conceptual underpinning of each project. Hotel as a commodity has taken over to a point where concepts and aspirations are subservient to expediency and commercialization.
In this workshop, we would like to explore a generic room (45 square meters, 4.5 x 10 meters, and 4 meters high) and come up with conceptual ideas to create a room based on these concepts. For the sake of this exercise, we have selected three important historical artist as our clients. Andy Warhol, Renee Magritte and Marcel Duchamp. Please select your preferred guest/client and design a hotel room for them. The room should either echo or challenge their conviction and what they stand for.
Medium: English with simultaneous interpretation (consecutive interpretation for workshop) to Cantonese/Putonghua is available.
    * Kohei Musha’s sessions are in Japanese. English / Cantonese / Putonghua interpretation is available.
Programme details are subject to change without prior notice.
